BSF programme director, Ambassador Iztok Mirošič, attended the traditional XIV. International Forum of the Aquileia Euroregion entitled “Betrayed Europe – Illusions and Disillusions”, which took place between 18 and 20 October 2018 in Videm (Udine), Italy. The event, organized by the Mitteleuropa Cultural Association in cooperation with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, was attended by numerous politicians, diplomats, experts, parliamentarians and academics.
Amongst prevailing negative observations, Ambassador Mirošič highlighted the positive aspects of the European Union for its members and especially Slovenia. After all, we are all together in the same boat and must strive towards finding consensual solutions that favour all EU27 members. Despite numerous criticisms, the only way for Europe to act as a strong actor globally is to work as a community. The failure to respect our common rules by any of the members, such as budgetary rules, could potentially endanger the entire Eurozone. Slovenia remains committed to the EU rules and will work towards being an active member of the EU core.
